The 34-year-old has navigated almost his entire boxing career with his father supporting him every step of the way.

Now he admits that the situation is tricky and that he can’t see the situation changing until he finally hangs up his gloves for good, despite the painful decision.

“He guided me, he helped me. He stood by me in the beginning. But now as an adult, I’m confident enough to make my own choices. Whether it’s good or bad, I have to make it.

“If I succeed, great. If I fail, it’s still great because it was in me. I can’t fail because of something I did that someone else told me to do. I wasn’t going to give him that power or that pressure.

“I wanted it all on me. As a man, I think that’s fair. “But it was hard for him to hear that because he’s always been there my whole life. He has always been one to guide me and tell me what to do and I would follow.

“So, it’s been hard for him to deal with that. That mindset, what I said, wanting to get on with things. He struggled with that.”
