Thursday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Who to Start, Who to Sit Against the Bills vs. Dolphins, Week 2

In the second Thursday Night Football game of the new season, the Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills in a pivotal AFC East matchup between two Super Bowl hopefuls.

Every team has several fantasy football important players like Josh Allen, James Cook, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and much more likely in your lineup. Both franchises made dramatic comeback wins in Week 1, but it remains to be seen who has the early lead in the contest.

Buffalo swept the season series in 2023, but star WR Stefon Diggs left in the offseason. Miami, on the other hand, has the same players, but without RB Raheem Mostert. In what should be a fun and effective competition, here are some fantasy football players to start and enter tonight’s game.

Start Keon Coleman, WR, and Khalil Shakir, WR, Bills: Early returns were promising for the two presumed new lead pitchers in Buffalo’s offense. Coleman caught four of his five targets for 51 yards, including an impressive sideline grab for 28 yards. Shakir, on the other hand, caught all three of his targets for 42 yards and a TD. It may not be a huge volume, but the Dolphins represent a strong match for these two receivers. Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr. both performed well in Miami’s win over Jacksonville last week, and Shakir had 105 receiving yards when these teams met in January. A faltering Miami secondary should give both players enough opportunities to be in your lineups on Thursday night.

Start Jeff Wilson, RB, Miami Dolphins: With Raheem Mostert officially ruled out for this game, Jeff Wilson has full steam ahead. De’Von Achane will likely get the bulk of the work if he plays, but there is plenty of room for both players in this Miami offense. The Dolphins landed two quality running backs in 2023, and they look to be in good shape once again. While Mostert was on the field in Week 1, Wilson led the team in rushing yards at 5.2 yards per carry. Arizona averaged five yards per carry last week against Buffalo, and there’s little reason to believe the Bills will suddenly be able to stop the Dolphins’ ground game. Also, it’s still possible that Achane won’t fit. If he joins Mostert on the sideline, Wilson will immediately become an elite play this week, and rookie Jaylen Wright is also worth watching.

Sit Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, TEs, Buffalo Bills: You probably feel like you have to start at least Kincaid based on where you’ve cast her, but your expectations should at least be moderate. Buffalo’s two tight ends combined for just two catches and 34 yards in Week 1, and Knox even surprisingly ended up with more yards (23 to Kincaid’s 11). Josh Allen reached 10 different players, of which only Keon Coleman earned at least five goals. That’s good news for the Bills’ offense overall, because Allen isn’t focusing on just one player, and it’s a disincentive for his tight ends’ fantasy prospects. You basically use TD points unless the target distribution changes. Kincaid managed just four catches for 27 yards in their October matchup in 2023, and his participation in Week 1 suggests it may be a while before he’s the guaranteed weekly starter you thought he would be when you drafted him.

Sit Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa finished with a strong stat line in Week 1, passing for 338 yards and a TD. However, he struggled mightily in the first half and is now without one or both of his featured defenders. He also doesn’t offer any value as a running back himself, which lowers the fantasy ceiling. Tagovailoa failed for the Bills last year, finishing as QB18 with just 15 points in the first game and QB24 with a pedestrian 9.6 points in the second. Until Tagovailoa proves he can put up points in this Bills defense, he’s too risky given the number of quality QB options around the league. You’re better off targeting matchups this week or even considering a dual threat like Justin Fields and benching the Dolphins’ signal caller.
